Offering Black, Green, Matcha, White, Oolong and herbal teas that are organic and directly sourced from tea estates across the globe, this tea company cares about their customer’s health and the environment. Owners Niraj Lama and his wife Mary Boland visit the farms periodically to check on the crops and select the best teas they can find.
Niraj hails from Darjeeling, India and he met his wife there, before they set up their first tea company, called “Darjeeling Tea Exclusive. Darjeeling is known throughout the world for producing some of the best black teas so Niraj was already steeped in his passion for quality tea.
When they relocated to New York, they changed the name of their business to Happy Earth Tea, where they focus on a newer market with a variety of global teas.
Niraj and Mary are dedicated to the interconnectedness of the earth and its’ inhabitants, taking conservation and sustainability of the earth’s resources very seriously. Believing that the power of tea is enormous, they intend to use this power to create a happy earth.
Happy Earth Tea is a member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% from their annual sales to non-profit organizations which work to solve issues related to conservation and the protection of the environment.
A global network of businesses that donate 1% of annual sales to approved environmental and sustainable non-profit organizations, 1% for the Planet has over 1,200 members in 48 countries and 3,600 partners. So far, this network has donated over $100 million to earth- friendly programs and initiatives.
This tea company also supports the Ama Foundation, which is a non-profit foundation that funds one of the most highly accredited homes for children in Nepal, who are disadvantaged and/or abandoned. This home is known as Ama Ghar.
Located near Kathmandu, Ama Ghar is home to 50 children who have escaped poverty, trafficking, abuse and malnutrition. They are given healthy food, education and medical care, while living in one big happy family. One of their graduates has become a doctor, while another is a nurse, with many more enrolled in university.
Happy Earth Tea donates 10% of the proceeds from their Nepali teas to the cause.
