Cinnamon has no serious side effects in the body. It may however, if heavily used, cause irritation of the lips and mouth It can also cause an allergic reaction in some people and when applied on the skin it is likely to cause irritation and redness.


Cassia cinnamon can be toxic if taken in large quantities especially in people experiencing liver problems. Since cinnamon can lower blood sugar levels, people with diabetes should adjust their treatment when using cinnamon supplements.
