The Best Iced Tea Maker For The Money [2018 Edition]

In the summer, few things compare to a cool glass of iced tea.

There are a handful of different ways to prepare iced tea, some are a little more high-tech and some are simpler.

At the core, all iced tea makers do the same thing: They submerge tea in water. Beyond that, this is where it starts to get interesting.

Some people like to make iced tea by preparing regular tea, and then cooling it either in the fridge or by adding icicles. Others prefer to allow their iced tea to steep more slowly, by submerging the tea in cold water instead of warm water.

Two Ways To Make Iced Tea

With HOT Water: When you use hot water to make your iced tea, the steeping process is much quicker, just a few minutes depending on the type of tea you’re using. Then you remove the tea from the water, and cool down the water by adding ice or putting it in the fridge for a while. This way is generally quicker than starting off with cold water.

With COLD Water: You leave the tea leaves in cold water for around a day, and it brings out a unique flavor. Rather than using heat to bring out the flavors in the tea, you’re using time instead.

Whether you prepare your iced tea with hot water or cold water, here are some useful kitchen gadgets that help make it easier.

You can use any regular tea steeper, too. The nice thing about these, the pitchers in particular, is that they allow you to make a large quantity at once. We like glass ones, because they’re suitable for hot or cold water, and you don’t have to worry about getting any kind of plastic taste in your tea.

If you’re using loose leaf tea, it’s really helpful to have a pitcher with some sort of filter attached to it. We’ll take a look at a couple options in a minute. If you’re using tea bags, you can just use any ‘ol pitcher you’ve got laying around, but it’s still handy to have the filter, plus that way you’ve got  the option to do bagged or loose leaf using the same pitcher.

This Is The Best Glass Iced Tea Maker:

These are the parts of an iced tea making device.

There’s a lot to choose from, but there were a few requirements for being the best one.

  • Made from glass – It won’t give off a weird plastic taste, and it won’t soak up the flavors from teas, turn a different color, and so on.
  • At least 50oz (1.5L) – We don’t want to feature anything that can’t make a decent enough sized batch, gotta make it worth the effort (even when it’s easy like making iced tea with an iced tea maker.)
  • Reasonable price, great value – We’re looking for quality without spending a fortune!

This iced tea pitcher made by Tartek fits the bill perfectly. It’s not the cheapest one out there, but it’s well made, it’s 50oz on the nose, it’s made from glass without any plastic pieces inside, it’s easy to clean, and the rust-proof filter is fine enough to perfectly filter all of the leaves from the water when your iced tea is done steeping. You can also use it to make coldbrew coffee, and it can handle both hot and cold temperates, so basically this particular option is perfect for making every type of tea we’ve mentioned thus far.

It’s not the cheapest option out there, but getting the BEST value for your money doesn’t necessarily meaning getting the cheapest option. It’s about quality vs price, and this one is pretty solid! But if you want to spend a bit less, here’s another good choice…

This One Is Pretty Good, Too!

This one holds a bit less water (therefor it makes less tea at once), but also costs a bit less, so if you don’t mind making less tea at once, it’s not a bad option at all. It has plastic on the inside with a soft mesh, so if you’re going to be using boiling water to make your iced tea, we’d still recommend going with the first one we featured above.

This one is better suited to making coldbrew coffee, on the other hand. So, if you’re planning on making iced tea with cold water, and coldbrew coffee, go for the Vremi (above) because it’s a great value, and versatile if you’re not using hot water.

Final Thoughts

The main thing that these pitches do is help you to separate the tea leaves from the water once they’re done infusing their flavors.
